1. village - A group of houses and associated buildings, larger than a hamlet and smaller than a town, situated in a rural area.
Example - Entire villages come to see the parade.
2. jumbled - To move in a confused or disordered manner.
Example - The contest editor has jumbled the letters of some common words.
3. mountain - A landmass that projects far above its surroundings and is higher than a hill.
Example - They both like mountain climbing.
4. Christian - One who believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Example - The people taught the Nez Perce boy Christian beliefs.
5. something - A thing that is not known.
Example - The man held a copper pan in his hands and was looking for something in the river.
6. nervous - Appearing or acting unsteady or uneasy.

Example - She kept her horse tied up near the tipi.
8. scraggly - Not growing in a regular pattern.

Example - Many times when our chieftains talked I heard them speak of the white people.
2. meadow - Land that is covered or mostly covered with grass.
Example - It was a beautiful meadow filled with wildflowers.
3. hillock - A small hill.
Example - There was a tall hillock at the bottom of the meadow covered in trees.
4. ornament - Something that adds beauty.
Example - None of our people ever put ornaments in their noses, but when the whites decided something was so, nothing could change their minds.
5. cousin - A child of one's uncle or aunt.
Example - Everyone came to the wedding, including a distant cousin no one had heard from in years.
6. cautioned - Warned
Example - Ms. Hawley cautioned me about the slippery roads.
7. greedy - Having or showing a selfish desire for wealth and possessions.
Example - There's no need to get greedy—there's plenty for everyone.
8. cous roots - An herb of the northwestern U.S. having edible roots.
Example - We collected many cous roots.
9. faraway - A far distance.
Example - My grandfather told us tales of faraway lands.
10. juniper - A type of shrub or tree of the cypress family with leaves resembling needles or scales and female cones usually resembling berries.
Example - We also came upon a bear, a grizzly bear, standing in the middle of the trail, eating berries from a juniper tree.
11. copper - A common reddish metallic element that is one of the best conductors of heat and electricity.
Example - They used copper pans to sift for gold in the stream.
